Accurate placement of treatment fields is necessary for successful radiation therapy. Being able to deliver the beam to the most targeted area is critical. In the past, the verification process and patient setup was done using port film x-rays to produce a still image, permitting the physician to verify the location of the patient before each treatment. Port film involves a very tedious process of loading film onto cassettes, taking numerous x-rays, waiting for development, review, and relocation. Throughout this process, the patient must lie still on the treatment table and wait for the laborious process to take place. However painstaking, this process has shown to be invaluable in reducing the error in treatments, and thus, improves the effectiveness of the external beam therapy. Nonetheless, the traditional port film process is tedious, laborious, and inefficient.
It's no wonder many facilities are looking for alternatives to this port film x-ray process. Enter Electronic Portal Imaging Devices (EPID) and the TheraView Electronic Portal Imaging System. Unlike other EPIDs, TheraView can be mounted onto any brand linear accelerator without a beamstopper, and is less costly than other add-on EPID systems. With both hardware and software integration, and zero downtime, TheraView EPID is a perfect fit. In addition, with remote access, physicians can view the images online, which saves time, money, and provides even more accuracy.
